The show, which never exceeds 1 H 30, is organized as follows : |
Creation and completion, by the end of the show, of a sculpture, the various elements of which (forged pieces and low-furnace iron bloom) are fabricated in situ and assembled by a bronze pouring.
A “primitive” visual (the best is to have NO electrical lighting at all) in order to encourage the audience to rediscover or dream, ancestral scents.
Music : the musician(s) are not seen. The music comes from the heart of the night.
A storyteller who reads and “lives” a text about the myths and legends of the smiths of various countries.
The show is very much related to the sculpture made (which is presented to the organization, the town hall or any other partner) whose theme is jointly chosen.
- Early metallurgy (building of a low-furnace and making of an iron bloom) is done by Régis ARANDA, blacksmith, researcher associated with C.N.R.S., “alchemist”.
- At the forge is Pierre REVERDY, knife-maker, Maître d’Art, and creator of Damas poétique, a poet in his field.
- The bronze part is done by Michel ROZIER, sculptor, blacksmith and bronzesmith in primitive techniques.
- A pyrotechnist fixes the “lighting” with special effects.
- If wished, the music can be by a musician from the area but he/she will have to comply with the organizers instructions.
If local musicians would like to compose a special piece for the event, it should be rhythmic, mystical, shamanic, leading to a kind of trance, a reminder of the repetitive sound of the hammer hitting the anvil.
- A storyteller : the storyteller’s voice, just like the music, comes from the heart of the night. The text is not an explanation of what is going on before the audience but rather a commentary of the smiths’ early mysticism in various countries (Dogon Country of Mali, Mongolia, Europe).
- The assistants : three people are needed. To activate the blowers, the balls of fire, the lighting and also to ensure that everything is secure.
We are all accustomed to fire since this is part of our daily work. It is essential however to choose carefully the setting for the event in order to maximise security.
- The site : a natural amphitheatre is the best. The audience can move and walk around since the show takes place in the center. The most important for the audience is that no electric lighting be in his/her angle of vision at anytime.
Setting up of the event
Since the setting up takes place one or two days before the event, some work at the forge may also be necessary. Therefore it could be interesting to contact teachers in the city, or the area, so as to organize pedagogic workshops over the period prior to the event
